Willie Anderson joined United straight from school and in season 1963-4 was a member of the team which won the FA Youth Cup.

He first appeared in League football for United as a 16 year-old - his opposite wingman was Best, making only his second League appearance.

An England Youth international, he had handful of appearances in 1965-6, playing in five League games and two major semi-finals - the FA Cup and the European Cup (2nd leg).

He was transferred to Aston Villa for £20,000 in January 1967.
