Jack Allan opened the 1904-5 season for United by scoring two goals in the first game. In his first season he netted 16 goals in 27 League appearances.
He then played unhappily as a Reserve team centre half-back. He netted five goals in three matches in the final month of the campaign when six wins and one draw ensured a return to Division One.
One month later, he retired in 1906. He had appeared in two FA Amateur Cup finals, winning one, losing one.
